A Tribute to the World Trade Center
Commentary:
As you probably have guessed by reading my tribute page, I am for standing up in the face of terror and rebuilding the World Trade Center as it was. Some argue that the towers were not beautiful, but I tend to disagree. There was something very majestic about the towers, and like all other twins, they were different in some ways. The North tower had the soaring antenna that projected like a spire into the sky. The south tower had a rounded roof with an observation deck. When you'd look at the towers from far away, each tower's different shape helped to enhance the image and made it a grand one. I will admit, the towers kind of looked monotonous before they were finished, but once the tops were finished out, each tower looked distinct. I think adding the antenna actually helped to beautify the look. Also, I am for sending the message to those who hate skyscrapers like the terrorists who flew planes into the WTC to go screw themselves. What could be more poetic justice then to rebuild grand skyscrapers on the graves of these monsters? People say that no one will rent the office space in the upper floors if the towers are rebuilt. If that were really the case, then people would be fleeing from the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, the Sears Tower, etc. That doesn't seem to be happening. And finally as a New Yorker, those buildings defined who were were as New Yorkers and Americans, and by putting them back, a part of me would feel restored. Of course there would be a memorial, but it can take form either in the plaza area or in the buildings. I think that the victims of 9/11 would have wanted nothing less then total defiance toward these cowardly terrorists and by building back strong, their memory will stand tall over the New York skyline, soaring toward the heavens.
